State agency Infectology Center of Latvia is a state institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health for the Republic of Latvia, created on 1 November 2004 under Regulation No. 618 of the Cabinet of Ministers, dated 15 September 2004, which restructured non-profit organisation state company Infectology Center of Latvia.
In the result of implementation of reforms of Ministry of Health, starting with 1 September 2009 Infectology Center of Latvia took over the functions of The Public Health Agency in areas of infectious diseases, including HIV infection and sexual transmissible infections, monitoring, epidemiological surveillance and specific prophylaxis of infectious diseases. And starting with 1 October 2009 as structural unit - Clinic - to Infectology Center of Latvia have been added former State Agency for Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases of Latvia and its branches.
Today the goal of Infectology Center of Latvia is to provide government authorities with informative, methodical and organised support for the creation and implementation of infectology politics, to provide the patients who suffer from infectious diseases, including those with HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, sexually transmissible and parasitic and lung diseases, with highly qualified specialized outpatient and inpatient assistance, provide epidemiological surveillance of infectious diseases, as well as carry out specific prophylaxis and analysis of infectious diseases.
